Nellis produce manager named one of the best
William Graham, produce manager at the Nellis Air Force Base Commissary, Nevada, will be recognized as one of 25 top produce managers nationwide selected by United Fresh for its 2018 Retail Produce Manager Award.
“I feel honored to be recognized for this award,” said Graham. “But I could not do this alone. I have a great team that is dedicated to our customers that provide first-class service.”
Graham was selected from hundreds of nominations submitted by produce suppliers and retailers from across the industry according to United Fresh. The awards pay tribute to produce managers’ efforts to boost sales and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.
One of the factors Graham attributes to his win is his ability to create eye-catching displays that highlight the quality of their produce.
“I like to visualize a concept and then tweak it to get it just right,” he said. “It has to be the right balance of sight and smell to engage the customer’s attention.”
He also stressed that having a strong team is the most important aspect of success.
“I believe in leading myself out of a job,” Graham added. “By creating a strong team with proper training and guidance, even if one member is out sick, the mission is still accomplished.”
“Team Nellis is proud of William Graham’s accomplishments,” said Shirley Taylor, assistant commissary officer. “Under William’s leadership, the department has won and placed in several industry and headquarter sponsored promotions. William is very much into his team and when he is presented with a task all hands are onboard.”
Graham will officially be presented his award at the Retail Food Service Celebration Breakfast held during the United Fresh 2018 convention, June 25-27, in Chicago. Since the program’s inception in 2005, almost 300 retail produce managers, representing more than 100 retail banners, have been recognized for their contributions to the industry.
The award recognizes the hard work and accomplishments of produce managers who reach out to their community to promote fresh produce and help their customers eat healthier.
