Tyson Foods, Inc. expands chicken strip recall due to possible foreign matter contamination

After a previous recall of approximately 69,000 pounds of specific frozen, ready-to-eat chicken strip products, Tyson Foods, Inc. is expanding the recall to include over 11.8 million pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken strip products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically pieces of metal, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent May 4.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, supervisory consumer safety officer for DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.    

The following products, bearing the establishment code P7221 and a “use by” date of Oct. 1 to March 7, 2020, are affected by the recall expansion.

• Tyson Fully Cooked Crispy Chicken Strips Chicken Breast Strip Fritters with Rib Meat, 40 ounces: UPC 0 23700 01866 3
• Tyson Fully Cooked Crispy Chicken Strips Chicken Breast Strip Fritters with Rib Meat, 25 ounces: UPC 0 23700 01410 8
• Tyson Fully Cooked Buffalo Style Chicken Strips Chicken Breast Strip Fritters with Rib Meat and Buffalo Style Sauce, 25 ounces: UPC 0 23700 01409 2
• Tyson Fully Cooked Buffalo Style Chicken Strips Chicken Breast Strip Fritters with Rib Meat and Buffalo Style Sauce, 40 ounces: UPC 0 23700 01865 6
• Tyson Fully Cooked Honey BBQ Flavored Chicken Strips Chicken Breast Strip Fritters with Rib Meat and Honey BBQ Style Sauce Smoke Flavor Added, 25 ounces: UPC 0 23700 01413 9

The previous recall issued in March involved the following products, all bearing the establishment number “P-7221” on the back of the product:

To date there have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury. Customers should return the product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
