Skippy Super Chunk Peanut Butter recalled

Hormel Foods Sales LLC is voluntarily recalling a specific size of their Skippy Super Chunk Peanut Butter product because some jars may contain elevated aflatoxin levels, according to a recall notice from the Defense Commissary Agency’s food safety office sent Sept. 28.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.   

Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring mold by-product produced by certain fungi that are found on agricultural crops such as corn, peanuts and tree nuts and can be harmful if consumed in significant quantities.

The following product is affected by this recall:

• Skippy Super Chunk Peanut Butter, 16.3 ounces: “Best if Used By” code SEP2921

The date code can be found on top of the product lid. No other Skippy or Hormel products are affected and no injuries or illnesses have been reported associated with this recall.

Customers should return the product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
