Royal Chinook Orchards recalls Fuji apples

Fuji apples grown by Royal Chinook Orchards are being recalled because they tested above the established tolerance levels for Thiabendazole (TBZ), a pesticide used to control fruit diseases, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent Oct. 4.

This product was only shipped to five commissaries: Fort Carson, Buckley Air Force Base, Peterson Air Force Base and the Air Force Academy, all in Colorado, and F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, lead consumer safety officer for DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has a recalled or withdrawn product in its inventory, the product is immediately removed from store shelves.

The following product is affected by this recall:

• Fuji Applies: Case lot number 1740, Packer Apple King, LLC marked with L28 or K3 on the end of the carton

Customers who purchased Fuji apples should contact their commissary of purchase to ensure the product purchased is not affected by this recall. If affected, customers should return the apples to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
