Rao’s Made for Home Slow Simmered Soup recalled
Sovos Brands Intermediate, Inc. is voluntarily recalling a limited number of their Rao’s Made for Home Slow Simmered Soup, Chicken & Gnocchi because they may contain egg, an undeclared allergen, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent Jan. 29. The recall was initiated after discovering that their vegetable minestrone soup, which contains egg, was mislabeled as chicken and gnocchi exposing consumers to the undeclared allergen.
Those with egg allergies or sensitivities run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.
The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.
The following product is affected by this recall:
- Rao’s Made for Home Slow Simmered Soup, Chicken & Gnocchi, 16 ounces: UPC 747479400015 with a “best by” date code of NOV 15 2024 EST 251 Code Date 2320 MDV 046030Z009
The affected soup is labeled “Chicken & Gnocchi”, but will contain vegetable minestrone, which is dark red in color. No other Rao’s Chicken & Gnocchi products are affected by this recall. There have been no reports of adverse effects related to this recall.
Customers should return this product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
