Quaker Rice Crisps recalled

The Quaker Oats Company is voluntarily recalling one size of their Sweet Barbecue Flavor Quaker Rice Crisps because they may contain soy, an undeclared allergen, according to a recall notice from the Defense Commissary Agency’s food safety office sent Feb. 26. The recall, affecting 4,550 bags, was initiated after discovering they were inadvertently filled with their Sweet & Spicy Chili flavor, potentially exposing consumers to undeclared soy allergens.

Those with allergies or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.               

The following product is affected by this recall:

• Quaker Rice Crisps Sweet Barbecue Flavor, 3.03 ounces: UPC 0 30000 31984 0 with a “best before” code of MAY29213M21

No other Quaker products, sizes or flavors are impacted by this recall and there have been no reports of illness.

Customers should return this product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
