Pork Free MREs recalled
AmeriQual Foods is voluntarily recalling specific lots of pork-free Meal, Ready-to-eat (MRE) product because it contains pork, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent April 17. MRE menus one through 12 are pork-free options. The recall was initiated after discovering Menu 8, Marinara Sauce with Meatballs, manufactured at AmeriQual shows pork as a meatball ingredient.
Although the meal is safe, those with non-pork dietary restrictions or preferences should not consume the product.
The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.
