“Party Size” bags of Ruffles Potato Chips recalled
Frito-Lay is voluntarily recalling a limited number of their “Party Size” bags of Ruffles Original Potato Chips because they may contain milk, an undeclared allergen, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent Jan. 22. The recall, affecting only 50 bags, was initiated after discovering they were inadvertently filled with another flavor, potentially exposing consumers to undeclared milk allergens.
Those with allergies or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.
The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.
The following product is affected by this recall:
- Ruffles Original Potato Chips Party Size, 13.5 ounces: UPC 0 28400 03400 5 with both a “guaranteed fresh” date of March 23 and manufacturing code 225335014 73 03:xx with xx = 00 through 13
No other Ruffles products, sizes or flavors are recalled, including bags in Variety Packs and no adverse reactions have been reported.
Customers should return this product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
Consumers with questions should contact Frito-Lay Consumer Relations at 1-800-352-4477 from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. CST.
