Mahatma Rice recalled for presence of foreign matter
Riviana Foods Inc. is voluntarily recalling some Mahatma Rice products due to the presence of grey metallic dust particles found in the items according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent Feb. 7.
The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, lead consumer safety officer for DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has a recalled or withdrawn product in its inventory, the product is immediately removed from store shelves.
The following products are affected by this recall:
- Mahatma Yellow Rice, 5 ounces – UPC 17400 10505 with code date of 004M720
- Mahatma Yellow Rice, 16 ounces – UPC 17400 10502 with a code date of 005M720
- Mahatma Yellow Rice, 10 ounces – UPC 17400 10507 with a code date of 005M720
- Mahatma Broccoli & Cheese Rice, 4 ounces – UPC 17400 10529 with a code date of 007M720
The company has received no complaints of illness or injury associated with this recall.
Customers who purchased any of these products at the commissary should bring them back for a refund.
