Lay’s Potato Chips recalled

Frito-Lay is voluntarily recalling select sizes of their Barbecue Flavored Potato Chips and Ruffles Original Potato Chips because they may contain undeclared milk allergens, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent Aug. 25.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.                           

The following products are affected by this recall:

• Ruffles Original Potato Chips, 1.5 ounces: UPC 28400 48228 and a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of Sept. 22 and an eight-character manufacturing code of 34631762 listed below the $1.29 price on the front of the bag

• Lay’s Barbecue Flavored Potato Chips:  The sizes and UPCs listed below, all bearing a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of Nov. 3 and any one of the following nine-character manufacturing codes: 6483214xx, 6481214xx or 6482214xx where “xx” = any number
  • 1 ounce bag: UPC 28400 002861
  • 1-1/2 ounce bag: UPC 28400 00300
  • 2-5/8 ounce bag: UPC 28400 32420
  • 7-3/4 ounce bag: UPC 28400 19961
  • 12-1/2 ounce bag: UPC 28400 31040

No other Lay’s products, sizes, flavors or variety packs are affected.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consumption of this product. Customers should return this product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
