Lay’s Lightly Salted Barbecue potato chips recalled

Frito-Lay is voluntarily recalling specific bags of Lay’s Lightly Salted Barbecue Flavored Potato Chips because they may contain undeclared milk allergens, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent June 14. The recall was initiated after discovering that bags of Lightly Salted Barbecue Flavored Potato Chips were inadvertently filled with another flavor potentially exposing customers to undeclared milk.

Those with milk allergies run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, supervisory consumer safety officer for DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.                

The following product is affected by this recall:

• Lay’s Lightly Salted Barbecue Flavored Potato Chips, 7.75 ounces: UPC 2840063242 with a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of Aug. 27 and a 9-digit manufacturing code with “29” in the second and third position (example: X29XXXXXX)

The UPC code can be found on the bottom left side of the bag and the “Guaranteed Fresh” date and the manufacturing code can be found right front side of the bag.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness and no other sizes or other Lay’s products are affected. Customers should return this product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
