KIND recalls select lots of its Oats & Honey Granola with Toasted Coconut pouches for improper labeling

KIND is voluntarily recalling select lots of its Oats & Honey Granola pouches because of improper labeling that didn’t list sesame seeds in its ingredients, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent July 8.

Sesame seeds are listed under the label’s “May Contain” statement, but are not listed in the main ingredients on the product. People with allergies or sensitivities to sesame seeds should “immediately discontinue use of this product,” the company said in a statement.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, supervisory consumer safety officer for DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.

KIND initiated this recall after the company found the product’s previous recipe was used and placed into new packaging that didn’t disclose sesame seeds as an ingredient. No other KIND products are affected. To date, the company has not received any adverse reactions related to this product.

The following products are affected by this recall:

• Oats & Honey with Toasted Coconut flavor, 17 ounces, UPC: 60265225101-6, Item 24990; Best-By dates range from April 30, 2021, to June 1, 2021.
• Oats & Honey with Toasted Coconut flavor, 11 ounces, UPC: 60265217186-4, Item 27934; Best-By dates range from April 4, 2021, to June 1, 2021.

Customers should return the product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
