Hope Foods Organic Hummus pulled from commissary shelves

The Defense Commissary Agency, out of an abundance of caution, is pulling one lot of Hope Foods Organic Hummus from commissary shelves because the item tested positive for Bacillus cereus in sample testing, according to a Defense Logistics Agency Product Advisory Notice sent Aug. 8. Bacillus cereus is a toxin-producing bacteria that is one of the most common causes of food poisoning and may represent a potential health risk.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this advisory notice to all its stores, said Richard Stith, supervisory consumer safety officer for DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. As a result, the product was ordered immediately removed from store shelves.    

The following product is affected by this recall:

• Hope Foods Organic Hummus (Original Recipe), 8 ounces: UPC: 5650000400 with lot code 061019 and a “best by” date of Aug. 19
  
   

Customers should return these products to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
