Hard–Boiled and Peeled Eggs recalled
Almark Foods is voluntarily recalling some hard-boiled and peeled egg products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent Dec. 20.
The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.
The following products are affected by this recall:
Almark Foods Hard Cooked Broken Egg Whites: Product ID 42020 with “use by” dates of Dec. 19, Jan. 23 - 24, 2020
Almark Hard-cooked Eggs: Product ID 30020 with “use by” dates of Jan. 29, 2020; Feb. 10, 24, and 14, 2020
Egggs Select Whole Hard Cooked Peeled Eggs: Product ID 64023-05 with a “use by” date of Jan. 27, 2020
Nic’s Peeled Pearls Salad Grade Hard-Boiled Eggs: Product ID 17394 with “use by” dates of Jan. 20, 2020; Feb. 3-4 and 24, 2020

Listeria monocytogenes may cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail or elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy adults may only suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infections may also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. The illness caused by these bacteria can take up to 70 days to appear.
Customers should return these products to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
