El Monterey frozen breakfast burrito product recalled due to foreign matter

Ruiz Food Products, Inc. is voluntarily recalling some El Monterey frozen breakfast burrito products that may be contaminated with foreign matter, specifically white, semi-rigid plastic pieces, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent May 31.

Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, lead consumer safety officer for DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.

The following product affected by the recall bears establishment number “EST. 17523A” on the back of the packaging:

• El Monterey Signature Burritos, Egg, Sausage, Cheese & Potato, 3.38 pounds value pack (12 count, 4.5 ounces individually wrapped) : Lot codes 18062 and 18063 with “best if used by” dates of March 3 and March 4, 2019

There have been no confirmed reports of injury associated with the consumption of these products. Customers should check their freezer and return these products to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
