Conagra Brands recalls canned meat and poultry products

Conagra Brands, Inc. is voluntarily recalling over 2.5 million pounds of their canned meat and poultry products due to a packaging error that may result in product contamination, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent Jan. 31. The recall was initiated after the company observed spoiled and/or leaking cans from multiple production dates in their warehouse. Further investigation determined the cans subject to recall may have been damaged in a manner that is not readily apparent to consumers, which may allow foodborne pathogens to enter the cans.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.
