Commissary sidewalk sales offer oversized savings
Commissary patrons worldwide will be able to stock up on their favorite items at significant savings during the Defense Commissary Agency’s spring “Thank You for Your Service” sidewalk sale event.
“As the title of the event says, we just want to say ‘thank you’ to our patrons for their service and sacrifice,” said Tracie Russ, DeCA’s director of sales. “Part of showing our gratitude is offering a worldwide sidewalk sale that gives our military members and their families a chance to realize extra savings on case items similar to what they’d see in commercial club stores.”
Commissaries worldwide will hold this sidewalk sale starting April 16 and continuing through May 31. The sidewalk sales are planned in conjunction with the Month of the Military Child in April and May’s Military Appreciation Month.
Weather permitting, every commissary worldwide will have one event – a two- or three-day outdoor sidewalk weekend sale (a maximum of four days) – offering extra savings including special deals on some case- and club-pack items. Several commissaries will partner with exchanges for certain promotions linked to this event.
Patrons are encouraged to check their store’s web page for sale hours and more details.
In addition to the case lot formats found in commercial club stores, commissary sidewalk events also offer additional “mix and match” packages of similar items in bulk-size cases. These include grocery items such as barbecue sauces; canned tomatoes, beans and vegetables; certain pasta meals; cold cereals; snacks; yogurt; water, tea and juices; pet food; and body washes, soaps and shampoos.
Customers have a variety of options to choose from. Sale items include products in the following categories:
- Fruit snacks, crackers, cereals, pastries, popcorn and potato chips
- Water and flavored water, juices, juice mixes, sodas, sports drinks and milk
- Frozen family meals
- Pet supplies to include bagged and canned food, treats and cat litter
- International foods such as Italian, Asian and Hispanic items
- Cookies, brownies, pancakes and muffin mixes
- Canned fruit and vegetables
- Sandwich, storage and freezer bags; paper products and cleaning supplies such as bathroom tissue, fabric sheets and laundry detergent
- Health and beauty care including diapers, wipes, soaps and body lotions
“These are deals our patrons cannot afford to miss,” Russ said. “This is another reason why shopping on the installation is worth the trip for extra savings!”
