Commissaries honor sacrifices of military families
FORT LEE, Va. – Since 1996, the month of November has been earmarked to honor the sacrifices of military families, serving on the “front lines” of supporting the careers of our nation’s service members.
“The mission of the military family is no less important than that of a soldier, sailor, airman or Marine and contributes significantly to military readiness,” said Army Command Sgt. Maj. Tomeka N. O’Neal, senior enlisted advisor to the DeCA director. “We appreciate their many sacrifices and remain committed to providing them a valuable and well-deserved commissary benefit.”
The Armed Services YMCA established Military Family Month in 1996. Each November, the president proclaims November as Military Family Month, acknowledging the support and sacrifices made by military families.
Just as the family supports the service member, commissaries exist to enhance the quality of life for our military and their families every month of the year.
Thanks to DeCA’s industry partners, commissaries worldwide feature in-store promotions and high-value coupons to help military families stretch their grocery budget even further than their normal everyday savings.
Through DeCA’s Your Everyday Savings! (YES!) program, military families have even more ways to save. Commissaries roll back prices daily on hundreds of the most frequently purchased popular brands. With a visit to the Savings Center and the MyCommisary online portal on Commissaries.com, military families can stretch their benefit.
“During National Military Family Month, not only do we pause to recognize the selfless dedication of military families worldwide, we also remain steadfast in our commitment to give our patrons the best, consistent, everyday savings possible.” O’Neal said.
