Children’s Playtex Plates and Bowls recalled

Playtex, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, is voluntarily recalling children’s Playtex Plates and Bowls with printed graphics because they may present a choking hazard, according to a recall notice from the Defense Commissary Agency’s food safety office sent Oct. 5. The affected products have a clear plastic layer over the graphics that may bubble and peel, creating a potential choking risk.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, lead consumer safety officer for DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has a recalled or withdrawn product in its inventory, the product is immediately removed from store shelves.

The following products are affected by this recall:

• Playtex Plates and Bowls with printed designs: UPC 078300059134, 078300059110, 078300014409, 078300014416, 078300022114, 078300022138, 078300014423, 078300019244, 078300019251, 078300059646, and 078300059622.

The recall involves only products with printed designs. No other Playtex products are affected.

There have been 372 reports of the clear plastic layer over the graphics bubbling or peeling and 11 reports of pieces of the detached clear plastic found in children’s mouths, including four reports of choking on a piece of the clear plastic layer.

Customers who purchased any of these products at the commissary should immediately stop using them and bring them to the commissary of purchase for a refund.
