Breakstone’s Cottage Cheese recalled
Kraft Heinz Company is voluntarily recalling select varieties of Breakstone’s Cottage Cheese product because they may be contaminated with extraneous red plastic and metal pieces, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent Nov. 15. Consumption of hard or sharp foreign material could cause injury to teeth, mouth, throat, stomach or intestine tissues if swallowed.
The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.
The following products are affected by this recall:
- Breakstone’s 2% Milkfat Lowfat Large Curd Cottage Cheese, 16 ounces: UPC: 0 21000 30053 2 with “best when used by” code date of 10 DEC 2019 W4, XX:XX 36-2158
- Breakstone’s 4% Milkfat Large Curd Cottage Cheese, 24 ounces: UPC: 0 21000 12285 1 with “best when used by” code date of 10 DEC 2019 W4, XX:XX 36-2158
- Breakstone’s 4% Milkfat Small Curd Cottage Cheese, 24 ounces: UPC: 0 21000 12284 4 with “best when used by” code date of 10 DEC 2019 W4, XX:XX 36-2158
There have been six consumer complaints but no reports of illness or injury related to this recall. No other sizes, varieties or code dates are included in this recall.
Customers should return the product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
