April is The Month of The Military Child!
“The World We Travel”
Across America, April is known for springtime, which is synonymous with fresh air, blooming flowers and new beginnings. This makes it the most appropriate time to celebrate the Month of the Military Child, because new beginnings are exactly what children in military families experience time and time again as they follow their parents from one military installation to another around the country and the world.
Your Commissary’s theme for 2023’s MOTMC is “The World We Travel” in honor of the courage and resilience military kids display every day in the face of these changes. According to the Department of Defense, there are more than 1.6 million military children who face unique challenges and experiences due to their parents’ service. For example, military families move every 2-3 years, on average, and each time, their children must adapt to new schools and support networks.
For these reasons and more, it’s clear that it’s not only the service members who make sacrifices in service to our country, but also their families as a whole, who must learn how to navigate the ongoing change that is commonly part of the military lifestyle. It is you who form the fabric of our tight-knit military communities, and we are proud to serve and support you in return.
Activity Sheet & Drawing Contest for Military Kids
The military lifestyle comes with its challenges, but it also has its benefits! (Commissaries are one example, but there are others, too…) Children in military families often become resilient, well-rounded people because they grow up learning from other cultures and perspectives as they travel around the world. We want to celebrate that, so we have a mission for you, if you choose to accept it…
