Del Monte ready-to-eat fruit and vegetable products containing peanut butter recalled
Due to the J.M. Smucker Co.’s recall of select Jif products, Del Monte is voluntarily recalling their fresh-cut, ready-to-eat fruit and vegetable products which contain Jif peanut butter dip because the dip may be contaminated with Salmonella, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent May 24.
Salmonella can be potentially life-threatening, especially to infants, older people, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems. It can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Salmonella’s most common symptoms are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. Salmonella’s symptoms usually develop between eight to 72 hours after consumption of the contaminated food and last about four to seven days.
The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, chief, public health division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.
The following products, packaged in clear plastic containers with tamper-evident seals and with a Del Monte “best if used by” date on, or before May 30, 2022, are affected by this recall:
Del Monte PB & J Sandwich, 6.4 ounces: UPC 717524770806 with a “best if used by” date of May 24 – 28
Del Monte Apple, Pretzel, Peanut Butter Snack Pack, 4.25 ounces: UPC 717524655011 with a “best if used by” date of May 24 – 29
Any Jif ® peanut butter snack packs that were packed in fruit snack trays from Sept. 1, 2021 through May 20, 2022, that may be still on hand should be disposed of as well.
No other fresh Del Monte products are affected by this recall as the implicated products are limited to the few Del Monte products containing J.M. Smuckers’ Jif peanut butter.
Customers should return this product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
