Sara Lee Frozen Bakery recalls pecan pies
Sara Lee Frozen Bakery is voluntarily recalling specific lots of their Sara Lee, Chef Pierre and Devonshire pecan pies because they may contain peanuts, an undeclared allergen, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent May 12. The recall was initiated as a result of possible cross-contamination of raw pecans in shells with residual peanuts during the supplier’s transport and storage of the pecans.
Those with allergies or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.
The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.
The following products are affected by this recall:
- Sara Lee Individually Wrapped Pecan Pie Slice, 4 ounces: UPC 032100051118 with lot codes of C050641C, C050631C and C050701C
- Chef Pierre 10” Pre-Baked Southern Pecan Pie, 36 ounces: UPC 032100092739 with a lot code of C040631C
- Chef Pierre 10” Pre-Baked 10-Slice Pecan Pie, 36 ounces: UPC 032100093750 with a lot code of C050911C
- Devonshire Bake Shop 10” Pre-Baked Southern Style Pecan Pie, 36 ounces: UPC 758108399877 with a lot code of C040911C
No illnesses have been reported. Customers should return this product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
