José Olé Taquitos recalled

The Defense Commissary Agency is issuing an internal recall of two varieties of frozen José Olé Taquitos because they may be contaminated with extraneous material, according to a recall notice from the Defense Commissary Agency’s food safety office sent Aug. 4. The recall was issued after notification by a green chili supplier that damaged processing equipment may have introduced plastic material into an ingredient used for the listed taquito products.

Consumption of hard or sharp foreign material could cause injury to teeth, mouth, throat, stomach or intestine tissues if swallowed.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.   

The following products are affected by this internal recall:

• José Olé Flour Chicken & Cheese Taquitos, 22.5 ounces: UPC 073202894579 with a “best by” date of July 17, 2021
• José Olé Shredded Steak Corn Tortilla Taquitos, 20 ounces: UPC 073202894517 with a “best by” date of July 8, 2021

Customers should return the product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
