El Monterey breakfast burritos recalled

Ruiz Food Products, Inc. is voluntarily recalling specific frozen breakfast burrito products because they may be contaminated with extraneous plastic pieces, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent Dec. 11. Consumption of hard or sharp foreign material could cause injury to teeth, mouth, throat, stomach or intestine tissues if swallowed.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.           

The following products are affected by this recall:

• El Monterey Signature Burrito, Egg, Sausage & Cheese, 4.5 ounces: Lot Code 19288, EST 45694 with a “best if used by” date of Jan. 15, 2021

• El Monterey Signature Burrito, Egg, Sausage & Cheese, 3.38 pounds, 12-count value pack: Lot Code 19288, EST 45694 with a “best if used by” date of Jan. 15, 2021

There have been three consumer complaints but no reports of illness or injury related to this recall.

Customers should return the product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
