Quick menu options: Commissaries expanding fresh meal kits to more stateside stores
FORT LEE, Va. – Meal kits, billed as gourmet style meals ready in as little as 10 minutes, will be available at all stateside commissaries by September, the Defense Commissary Agency announced.
Meal kits were introduced last November in 12 commissaries in Virginia and North Carolina, and sales prompted their phased expansion to other stores beginning in April and ending Sept. 30.
The kits are being offered in response to customer demand and market growth in the meal kit industry, according to Darrell Clary, the agency’s category manager for meat, beverages and deli/bakery.
The four-portion meals come in Fresh Meal Kits, One Pan Dishes and Premium Pairings meal options. All meals contain fresh protein, flavorful sauces and finishing elements such as toppings, breading or vegetables. The individually wrapped ingredients are easily combined to create a tasty culinary delight with easy-to-follow directions or recipe cards, which are included with every meal.
Customers have 10 menu choices among the meal kit offerings, all under the Tyson Tastemaker brand. With the expansion, the entire line of meals will become available. Current menu options available are Fresh Meal Kits including Nashville Hot and Crispy Chicken, Parmesan Breaded Chicken, Carne Asada Street Tacos and Tomato Braised Chicken Cacciatore; One Pan Dishes, offering Korean BBQ Style Chicken, Chicken Arrabbiata and Chicken Paella; and Premium Pairings including Bruschetta Chicken, Olive Oil and Herb Chicken and Italian Herbed Pork Chops.
Menus will change as new items are introduced.
