Commissaries unaffected by a potential government shutdown or Christmas Eve closure of federal offices

FORT LEE, Va. – Military commissaries are not affected by a potential government shutdown, the Defense Commissary Agency announced.

Earlier in the fall, Congress finalized the budget for several departments, including Defense. Because DeCA is a defense agency, its operations will not be interrupted if a new federal budget or a continuing resolution isn’t passed by the midnight Dec. 21 deadline.

Commissaries are also unaffected by the presidential executive order closing federal offices on Christmas Eve. All stores will remain open during their scheduled operating hours on Dec. 24.

Commissary patrons are reminded that many of the commissaries normally closed on Mondays will be open on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and again on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31.

All commissaries will be closed on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, and again on Jan. 1 for New Years’ Day.
