Ritz Cracker Sandwiches and Ritz Bits recalled

Mondelēz Global LLC is voluntarily recalling specific packages of Ritz Cracker Sandwiches and Ritz Bits products because they may be contaminated with salmonella, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent July 21.

The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, lead consumer safety officer for DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.

The following products are affected by this recall:

• Ritz Bits Cheese Big Bag, 3 ounces: UPC 0 44000 00677 8 with “best when used by” dates of March 7 through April 13, 2019

• Ritz Bits Cheese, 1 ounce: UPC 0 44000 02025 5 with “best when used by” dates of March 7 through April 13, 2019

• Ritz Bits Cheese, 12 pack carton: UPC 0 44000 02032 3 with “best when used by” dates of March 8 through April 13, 2019

• Ritz Bits Cheese, 30 pack carton: UPC 0 44000 01309 7 with “best when used by” dates of March 3 through April 13, 2019

• Ritz Bits Cheese, 1.5 ounces: UPC 0 44000 00929 8 with “best when used by” dates of March 3 through April 13, 2019

• Ritz Bits Cheese Go Packs, 3 ounces: UPC 0 44000 03215 9 with “best when used by” dates of March 7 through April 12, 2019

• Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches, 10.8 ounces: UPC 0 44000 88211 2 with “best when used by” dates of Jan. 14 through Feb. 11, 2019

• Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches, 1.35 ounces: UPC 0 44000 002111 4 with “best when used by” dates of Jan. 14 through Feb. 11, 2019

• Ritz Bacon Cracker Sandwiches with Cheese, 10.8 ounces: UPC 0 44000 04566 1 with “best when used by” dates of Feb. 5 through Feb. 6, 2019

• Mixed Cookie Cracker Variety, 20 pack: UPC 0 44000 04100 7 with “best when used by” dates of Feb. 1 through Feb. 4, 2019

To date, there have been no reported illnesses related to the recalled products and no other Mondelēz Global LLC products are affected.

Salmonella can be potentially life-threatening, especially to infants, older people, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems. It can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Salmonella’s most common symptoms are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. Salmonella’s symptoms usually develop between eight to 72 hours after consumption of the contaminated food and last about four to seven days.

Customers should return the product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
