Armour Dried Beef recalled for potential toxin contamination
Pinnacle Foods Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain shelf stable dried beef products due to a potential staphylococcal enterotoxin and clostridial toxin contamination as a result of a possible processing deviation according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent April 30.
The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Chris Wicker, a public health advisor for DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.
The following products affected by this recall bear establishment number “EST. 2AD” inside the USDA mark of inspection:

Armour Ground & Formed Sliced Dried Beef, 2.25 ounces: Lot codes 0707011Y11, 0708011Y11, 0709011Y11, 0710011Y11, 0711011Y11, 0715041Y11, 0716041Y11, 0717041Y11, 0718041Y11 and 0719041Y11 and “best by” dates of Jan. 7 through 11, 2021 and April 15 through 19, 2021
- Armour Ground & Formed Sliced Dried Beef, 4.5 ounces: Lot codes 0723011Y11, 0724011Y11, 0725011Y11 and 0722041YW1 and “best by” dates of Jan. 23 through 25, 2021 and April 22, 2021
The affected products were produced on Jan. 2 and April 9 and have a three year shelf life.
Staphylococcal enterotoxin is an exotoxin produced by Staphylococcus aureus. It is one of the toxins responsible for staphylococcal food poisoning. Clostridial toxins are toxins responsible for gastrointestinal diseases.
No adverse reactions have been reported. Customers should return this product to the commissary of purchase for a full refund.
