Advanced Fresh Concepts recalls sushi products due to listeria concerns
Advanced Fresh Concepts (AFC) is recalling its frozen Tuna Fillet Saku because the product may be contaminated with listeria according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent Jan. 19. This product is an ingredient used in the sushi department.
The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, lead consumer safety officer for DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has a recalled or withdrawn product in its inventory, the product is immediately removed from store shelves.
The product involved in the recall is:
- Advanced Fresh Concepts (AFC) frozen Tuna Fillet Saku – Lot number 117055
The product could have been used at the following commissary locations:
- Naval Support Activity Memphis, Tennessee
- Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska
- McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey
- Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri
- Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida
- Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas
- West Point, New York
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s website, listeria can cause fever and diarrhea. Other symptoms include headache, stuff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions. Pregnant women typically experience only fever and other flu-like symptoms like fatigue and muscle aches. However, for pregnant women this type of infection can lead to miscarriage, still birth, premature delivery or life- threatening infection of the newborn.
The illness caused by the bacteria can take up to 70 days to appear.
Customers should return any tuna sushi products to the store of purchase for a full refund.
