Shopping for that holiday meal
Commissary patrons have plenty of options to save.
Most of the presents are under the tree, the house is glittering with Christmas décor and now attention turns toward the holiday feast. There is no need to go into hock for your festive ham. The holiday dinner is the sweet spot of holiday savings when shopping at your commissary.
Whether you’re trying new recipes or are tied to a menu established through generations, your commissary will offer the best savings, said Defense Commissary Agency sales director Tracie Russ.
“We encourage our patrons to use their commissary benefit to save their hard-earned pay when planning holiday meals,” Russ said. “And whether you need dinner ingredients, bowl game snacks or munchies for the children while they’re out of school, your commissary has what you need without breaking your holiday budget.
“We’re also reminding our patrons that they can now use their MILITARY STAR card in commissaries while shopping for that holiday meal,” Russ added. “It’s one card for the military community that earns points, has a low interest rate and gives users access to sweepstakes such as ‘Your Holiday Bill is On Us.’”
Military resale patrons can enter the “Your Holiday Bill is On Us” sweepstakes through Dec. 31 everywhere the MILITARY STAR is accepted, including exchanges and commissaries. Each card transaction is an entry into the sweepstakes. Five grand-prize winners will have their STAR card bill paid in full up to $8,200, with a minimum prize of $2,500. Ten second-prize winners will be awarded a $1,000 credit on their STAR card statement, while 25 third-place winners will receive a $500 credit. Winners with a balance less than their prize amount will receive a credit on their account.
Extra savings for the holidays are always available for commissary patrons with digital coupons through their commissary rewards card, and they can always take advantage of regular coupons. Patrons can also find Deals of the Week sale items and the sales flyer online or at store entrances.
Throughout December and into the New Year, commissary industry partners – vendors, suppliers and brokers – are collaborating with stores to offer promotional discounts beyond everyday savings for the holidays.
One of the commissary’s largest worldwide promotions, the “Get Your Turkey Free” coupon booklet, continues through Dec. 31 allowing patrons to save on their holiday turkey dinners. Several industry partners collaborated for this promotion to help commissary patrons earn a free fresh or frozen whole turkey when they buy holiday meal items: Kraft Heinz Company, Kellogg’s, General Mills, B&G, Heinz, Nabisco, Hefty/Reynolds Wrap, Pepperidge Farm, Chinet, Del Monte, Persil, French’s, Campbell’s, White Castle, Crisco, Mueller’s, Thomas’, Entemann’s, Nexium, Preparation H, Kimberly-Clark and Frito Lay. This coupon booklet also includes preparation tips and holiday recipes.
Commissary patrons will see another holiday promotion, “Celebrate the Holidays with General Mills – Time to cook and bake!” supported by store displays throughout December highlighting deeply discounted items with high value, in-store coupons.
Save even more money with commissary store brands that have recently hit store shelves. “These products will provide the quality customers expect and the deeper savings they deserve, going even further to extend your holiday spending,” said Russ. “And while you’re at it, use the money you’re saving to do your New Year’s dinner shopping as well – at the commissary.”
