Sabrett frankfurters, sausages recalled
Marathon Enterprises Inc. is voluntarily recalling some hot dog products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically bone fragments according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent July 15.
The Defense Commissary Agency has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, lead consumer safety officer for DeCA headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has a recalled or withdrawn product in its inventory, the product is immediately removed from store shelves.
"We have learned that the commissaries carry some of the products listed in the recall," Stith said. "The stores are pulling those items from the shelves." DeCA food safety officials are monitoring this recall for any updates.
The following recalled products are carried by commissaries:
- Sabrett Bun Size, Skinless Beef Frankfurters, 14 ounces: UPC 0 74338 00416 0
- Sabrett Skinless Beef Frankfurters, 14 ounces: UPC 0 74338 00417 0
- Sabrett Hot Sausage, 12 ounces: UPC 0 74338 00479 0
The affected products bear establishment number "EST. 8854" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
There has been one reported minor oral injury associated with consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness related to the consumption of these products should contact a healthcare provider.
Customers who purchased any of these products at the commissary should bring them back for a refund.
